Warahi Transformers - Unit E

And now for one of the two things that people actually come to see me draw. Well, at least two of these characters would be one of the two things, but-...you know what I mean.

Not the best humans in the franchise, but they're some of the better ones and ones that would certainly be in my not-yet-made Transformers series (that ain't saying that I'll ever make it, just that it don't exist yet (if it ever will) I just get bored and draw Transformers crap how I'd do it if I were to do my own). Miko is clearly the most disliked of the Prime humans, but I always thought she was pretty fun to have around with how much of a dumbass she could be. And the animators clearly loved her. Jack was always the most boring to me, but that's cause he was the stereotypical "I'm the responsible one". And Raf was just kinda there.

Having been part of the first real Transformers-Human team, the kids of the group, Jack Darby, Miko Nakadai, and Rafael Esquivel, accepted the offer of the government agent, William Fowler, to become members of a new "official" group, Unit E, upon the thwarting of one of the Decepticons' more devastating instigations from Megatron himself. Though Ratchet and Bulkhead left for a new group that was forming in Detroit, the team was still accompanied by Cybertronians with Arcee, Smokescreen, and the now promoted Bumblebee: Goldbug (along with new recruits they'd eventually get. Sideswipe, Strongarm (warahi.deviantart.com/art/Wara…), and Grimlock).

As the years went by, Jack, Miko, and Raf lead numerous assaults in various high-class operations, namely against the forces of M.E.C.H.. Even when not aided by their Cybertronian companions they were usually more than enough to get the job done.

Jack, ever since the beginning, was the leader of the human portion of the group. Easily the most responsible and serious, he could think on his feet and counter any trouble that Miko might get the group into, as well as keep the girl herself in line when she got too...unreasonable. Having studied various forms of combat, spending much more time than either of his comrades in doing so, Jack has no problem using a weapon or his hands when fighting. Making sure that he has everything he needs to know before-hand, the team has rarely failed under his leadership.

That's not to say Miko hasn't tested that quality however. Ever since before Unit E formed she'd always most been the most...questionable member of the group. More suited to be a party animal than an agent at times, the young Asian woman has no restriction in making as much noise as possible when attacking. When she's in the field stealth is hardly an option. Preferring to call herself a "Wrecker" after being Bulkhead's partner, Miko tends to bring along the most explosive weaponry on missions. Nothing puts a smile on her face quite like seeing the enemy's shit getting blown to hell. To her misfortune this has, more often than not, gotten her into quite a bit of trouble. But it's never been anything that Jack hasn't been able to get her out of (not that he enjoys having to do so).

Raf, meanwhile, usually doesn't work in the field himself. Rather he operates from back at base doing research and relaying information to his friends. Though not that physical of a member, he is invabluable in his intellect. When he's not developing new weaponry and gadgets for them to use, he's getting Jack and Miko through encrypted locks in bases or disabling defense systems for them. Without him they'd likely have died years ago. And when he himself does need to fight he still has had some training (though he wears his outfit underneath his lab-coat).

Now I know, there are Transformer fans out there that don't like humans in the franchise. And yeah, some of them are annoying and should be shot (along with some Transformers as well). But I honestly have never seen why you wouldn't have human characters. I mean they make things a hell of a lot more relateable and meaningful to the whole conflict and can be quite good at times even. And provide some pretty good humor with Cybertronians not understanding Earth things as well. 

But like I said, I don't view the Prime humans as the best. Good, but not the best. Regardless, here they'd actually be quite well known by both Cybertronians and the humans that are involved in things. Maybe not known individually, but in this Unit E would have made a name for themselves by the time the series starts as the group that saves the day when all else fails (which'll make the rise of Optimus' team throughout the series more exciting I think).

Obviously the group is no longer kids in this series. They've all grown up in Unit E and have spent years combating M.E.C.H. and Decepticons and the like, so much so that it's just an everyday thing to them by this point. Jack even doesn't get all that irritated by this point at Miko fucking up sometimes. Just normality. They even train other operatives sometimes.

While Miko does like destroying crap, Jack would be the one taking on the main enemies of missions when it comes to combat. When he's there sometimes it's Silas (who ends up shooting Jack at one point to get away prompting Miko to actually get a hit in on him with a missile launcher). Raf himself would even kill a few people when M.E.C.H. tries to infiltrate their base at one point and is forced into combat.

When it came to their looks I was not just going to have them have their old clothes. So, since they were secret agents, I designed more stylized outfits. I felt the colors I gave them go with them pretty well given what they wore in the past (grey for Jack, purple for Miko, and orange for Raf). But their actual outfits are a bit inspired by Power Rangers/Super Sentai outfits with a flair of secret agent-ness thrown in. 

Oh, and in one issue they'd end up getting turned into Transformers for a bit.
